You may have come across the term Ecodesign ready 2022 while looking for a new stove? What does that mean and is it an important factor to consider when choosing a new stove?
Ecodesign ready means that the stove complies with EU regulations due to come into force in 2022. The Ecodesign programme’s aim is to lower emissions and therefore help improve air quality.
Burning wood produces particle matter often referred to in the world of stoves as PM. So the lower the PM the more environmentally friendly the fire is. The picture below helps put this into perspective.
The picture from the SIA website, shows that SIA Ecodesign ready stoves can reduce emissions by 90% compared to an open fire and 80% compared to an old stove.
What other benefits are there?
The environmental benefits alone are reason to buy Ecodesign ready stoves but there are economic benefits too. The stoves are designed to burn efficiently and as a result reduce the amount of fuel you need to heat your room. A win win situation! Choice Stoves have a large range of Ecodesign ready stoves. We are proud stockists of Ecodesign stove brands: Burley Fireball and Burley Firecube, Ecosy+, ABX, ACR, AGA, Esse, Firefox, Parkray, Saltfire and last but certainly not least Go Eco.
What if I purchase a stove that is not Ecodesign Ready?
Does this mean I will have to replace it in 2022? No, all stoves bought before 2022 can be installed and used, however any stove bought after that date must comply to the Ecodesign regulations.
